A ban for taping the prison visit was enforced when Democrat MP Sirichok Sopha met with Russian arms dealer Victor Bout, Corrections Department director general Chartchai Suthiklom said on Thursday.
Chartchai was commenting on news reports that the Sithichok-Bout meeting was taped and that the transcript of the recorded conversation might be released to the public by Bout's wife.
"I don't think there is a tape due to the prison ban for recording the conversation," he said.
In regard to the question when the meeting took place, he said Sirichok met Bout around 4.00 pm and that the wardens allowed the visit in accordance with the prison regulations.
At the time, Bout and other remand inmates were still milling around and had not been locked up in their cell for the night, hence he was allowed to meet his visitor, he said.
