A police and Army security team raided a bomb-making facility yesterday that reportedly provides explosive devices to insurgents in Pattani's Sai Buri district and seized enough electronic components to make 11 bombs.
After a police investigation found two suspected bomb-makers - Mahamasori Samae, 27, and Afundi Kapa, 26 - were operating in forest land near Ban Sae Moh in tambon Tabing, a team went to surround and search the place but the two suspects opened fire at troops.
After a brief gunfight, the duo fled into deeper forest while Thai officials called for more officers to search for the men. Authorities seized the parts, which could have made 11 bombs. Pattani police chief Maj-General Pichet Pitisetpan said the raid was a success, as the bombs could have caused great loss of life.
