Colombian duo caught for heist

Two Colombians have been arrested for allegedly stealing more than Bt4million worth of valuables from a cardiologist's home in Bangkok.

One of the stolen items was a diamond ring, which Luzda Lee Taborda Ospena was still wearing on her finger at the time of arrest on Thursday.

Also caught was her alleged accomplice, Camilo Andres Albois Gonzalez. Both have denied any wrongdoing.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner LtGeneral Santhan Chayanont announced the arrest of the pair at a press conference yesterday.

According to Santhan, the suspects were intercepted and arrested while they showed a bit of hesitation as to whether to drive a Honda CRV into a housing estate project in Bangkok.

"We had been watching out for them after receiving reports that a foreign burglary gang was active in the area," Santhan said.

The burglary on the cardiologist's home took place on August 2.

However, during the attempt to arrest them, two of their accomplices managed to flee the scene.

"We are investigating this case further," Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner MajGeneral Sumeth Ruangsawas said. "They rented the vehicle from Phuket and modified its licence number".
