Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij today highlighted the need for budget deficits for some time, to finance infrastructure development.
The spending will go to education, healthcare, transport and irrigation projects, he said.
He noted that it is impossible for a balance budget now, due to the huge expenditure which leaves the government with a small amount for the infrastructure financing. As such, the government will need to borrow to finance the extra investment.
"(Given trillions of baht in investment), there is a slim chance for balance budgets before five years," he said.
