The coalition Bhum Jai Thai Party expects many MPs from other political parties to join it ahead of the next general election, a party source said yesterday.
The defections would help boost the number of Bhum Jai Thai MPs from 32 at present to 56, the source said.
Most of the MPs likely to defect to Bhum Jai Thai were from the Friends of Newin faction, a splinter group from the disbanded People Power Party, according to the source. The name refers to veteran Buri Ram politician Newin Chidchob, who has been stripped of electoral rights but still retains political influence.
