Kokaew to stay in jail

The Criminal Court yesterday rejected another request for temporary release by red shirt leader Kokaew Pikulthong.

His lawyer Kamnuan Chalopatham offered bail of Bt2 million and argued that his client had no motive to jump bail. Kamnuan said the probe into the terrorism case against Kokaew had been completed and the country was at peace again.

The court ruled that previous court decisions denying bail should stay in force because there were no grounds to warrant any change to release Kokaew.

Kokaew, who recently lost a by-election in Bangkok, has been held at the Remand Prison along with other red-shirt leaders in connection with the political violence in April and May that left 90 dead and 1,800 injured.
