The Appeals Court yesterday allowed red-shirt leader Veera Musigapong temporary release under a Bt6-million bail guarantee pending indictment and trial on terrorism charges.
In an appellate hearing on Thursday, the court overturned a lower court's rejection of bail appeal after the Department of Special Investigation said it was not against Veera's temporary release and three defence witnesses, including secretary-general to the prime minister Korbsak Sabhavasu, testified.
Under the bail conditions, Veera has to report to the court every 15 days, is not allowed to travel overseas and is prohibited from holding or participating in a rally.
The defence team will on Tuesday also apply for the bail of red-shirt leaders weng Tojirakarn and Kokaew Pikulthong based on yesterday's ruling on Veera's bail. Lawyer Karom Pholthaklang said his team would offer the same Bt6-million amount as bond, and would seek the release of the rest of the red-shirt detainees later.
He was speaking at the Bangkok Remand Prison while arranging for Veera's release.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Court yesterday ordered the launch of a judicial review into a defamation suit filed by Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan.
Jatuporn is suing Democrat MP Watchara Phetthong for portraying him as a lackey of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. In remarks made last September, Watchara also labelled Jatuporn as a liar.
The court is scheduled to commence trial on October 4.
