Wief of DSI chief faces complaint

Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit yesterday accompanied businessman Theerachai Thamrongpongsakorn, who accused Wassamon Pengdit of demanding a Bt150,000 kickback over a tax bill, to file an official complaint with Crime Suppression Police. Wassamon is the wife of Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tharit Pengdit.

The 62-year-old businessman said that on May 27, a man claiming to be a DSI official called offering to pay back the money so this matter can end, but he decided to consult with party MPs, who then advised him to file a police complaint. Although he did not get any such phone calls again, he said he noticed some "suspicious" activities around his neighbourhood, making him and his family feel unsafe.

Prompong said that on August 3, he and the lawyer's team would file a complaint with the National AntiCorruption Commission against Wassamon, a former employee of the Revenue Department, for abuse of authority.
