Reform members take time to get to know colleagues

Members of the National Reform Committee will spend the next three to four weeks familiarising themselves with fellow panel members and their way of thinking, its chairman said yesterday.

Anand Panyarachun said the 20 committee members had different work experiences and backgrounds and would need time to get to know other colleagues' thoughts.

He also said that during its recent meetings he had allowed the panel members to freely express their views. "It was like a general debate."

Anand said the panel members had not divided the work among themselves as they first needed to complete the framework of their mission. He expected the framework to be ready next month.

Economist Narong Phetprasert, who is a committee member, said yesterday that the panel's focus would be on reducing social inequality.
