A snap election, which could take place early next year, is possible if the reconciliation process starts to show tangible results by this year, government spokesman Panithan Wattanayagorn said quoting the prime minister on Friday.
Panithan was speaking after the meeting between PM Abhisit Vejjajiva and US Under Secretary of State William Burns.
"The prime minister expresses his thanks for the US Congress resolution in support of Thailand's road map for reconciliation," he said in reference to the Abhisit-Burns meeting.
In the talks, the Thai side pledged to scale down the enforcement of emergency rule as soon as possible to pave way for the resumption of normalcy, he said.
