The UNESCO World Heritage Committee will consider elevating 32 sites to "world heritage" status and expanding the territory of 28 world heritage sites, a senior official said yesterday.
The agendas would be tabled at the committee's 34th general assembly from July 25August 3 at Brasilia City, said deputy permanent secretary for culture and committee member, Somsuda Leeyawanich. They would also consider 39 sites on a list of "world heritage in danger", she said, determining next year about which sites should be demoted.
As for the proposal to elevate Udon Thani's Phu Phra Baht Historic Park as a world heritage, she said the Office of Archaeology was making a nomination file for the committee's consideration, which should be complete by next February. The file would then be assessed before proposing to the World Heritage Committee at their 35th meeting in Bahrain, she added.
