An Iranian couple have been arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport for allegedly smuggling 18.4 litres of liquefied "ice" (crystal methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth Bt64 million, Customs Department director-general Somchai Sujjapongse said yesterday.
Javad Firusi, 28, and wife Manise Asadari, 30, were arrested carrying the drug in alcohol and shampoo bottles on their arrival from Istanbul on Monday. Police said they confessed that in exchange for US$3,000 (Bt97,000), they had brought the drug to give to an accomplice who would then deliver it to a customer in Pattaya. Somchai also reported that another Iranian man, Solfari Mossen, 24, was arrested along with 900 grams of ice worth Bt3 million, hidden in his trousers, on arrival from Tehran. Although he admitted the trousers were his, he said he did not know how the drug got there.
The three Iranians were charged with having the drug in their possession with intent to sell, and smuggling the drug into Thailand without permission, before being handed over to the Drug Suppression Police.
