About 2,350 junior and senior students from 47 educational institutions nationwide are being recruited to join Makro's retailer alliance project, which is in its fourth year and features more programmes to strengthen Thai retailers.
These students will work for at least 470 retailers in Bangkok and the provinces from JuneOctober to gain knowledge on retail management, for certificates and a chance to work with Makro.
Under the Makro Retailer Alliance (MRA) project, there will be 11 seminars in 10 provinces, targeting 5,500 retailers and a firstever contest for retailers' children to find the best business models in growing their retail business.
At least 45,000 retail operators and small retailers nationwide are being targeted to participate in Makro activities free of charge throughout the latter half of this year.
Suchada Ithijarukul, chief executive officer of Siam Makro, said: "In the fourth anniversary, the main activities have been arranged to enrich the potential of the retailer operators and small retailers, including public relations of the project, so it would become widely known.
"We hope the activities can be beneficial to the retailers and small retailers, and can give them adequate knowledge on the retailing business, enabling them to apply such knowledge to further strengthen their business."
Makro also wishes that all activities that have been performed can be a driving force and moral support for all retailers and small retailers, and can make Thai retailing business grow strongly and sustainable."
Siam Makro currently oper¬ates 47 Makro branches and more than 500,000 of its 2 million members are local retailers.
