Bangkok by-election attracts little interest

Only a small crowd attended the first day stage for candidates in the Bangkok Constituency 6 MP by-election yesterday.

The Election Commission organised a stage at Seri Thai Park in Bueng Kum district and let each of the six candidates or their representative speak for half an hour. About 100 police including bomb squad officers provided security. Organisers prepared 200 seats but many were vacant.

Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit, represent-ing Kokaew Pikultong, attacked the government's fail-ure to achieve national reconcili-ation and limiting people's free-dom and rights by extending the emergency decree in 19 provinces.
