Indie outfit the Richman Toy put on their first fullscale solo show, with a little help from their friends
Thai rock 'n' rollers the Richman Toy brought the house down with their debut fullscale concert "Od Thalu Pao" last Saturday at the Indoor Stadium in Hua Mark with fans cheerŽing on not just the four lads but also their six guests.
The laid back, hippielike band arranged their show in different themes, going country style for "Racha Nak Rak" and "Floor Thonglor", opting for folk in "Ma Pa" and "Thung Dokmai Baan", then switching to reggae in "Monrak Ya Saneh" and "Ror Nong Jod Huajai".
The audience was quick to latch on to the emotions, dancing along to such hits as "Od Od", "Krapao Ban Fan Yim", and "Monrak Ya Saneh" but staying still to other, less familiar tracks.
Former Futon singer Gene Kasadit was the first guest and surprised the audience with a dramatic performance, albeit one without words, to the accompaniment of an instruŽmental cover of Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky" from 1973's album "The Dark Side of the Moon". Gene was expansive and colourful, the lighting was great but unfortunately the youngsters in the audience had no clue who Gene was and had probably never heard of Pink Floyd either.
The Richman Toy returned and normality returned with such singalong songs as "Rak Jing Paan Jor" and "Kot Hang Kam", a soundŽtrack of the recent movie "9 Wat" ("Secret Sunday").
Screams rang out loud and clear when comedian Mum Jokmok made his way on stage and performed rousing songs "Tang Ngarn Kan Der" and "Klup Ma Tham Mai".
The screams were still there when newŽcomer Tina sang a medley of the band's songs and covers, among them "Mai Roo Jak Chan Mai Roo Jak Ther" with vocalist Jab. And the audience showed their love for heartthrob Arak "Pe" amornsuŽpasiri from Slur who played harŽmonica on "Phu Chana Thi Phai Phae" in front of a backdrop showing scenes of the antigovernment demonstrations. First from Slot Machine duetted with the band on "Palang Wairun", adding the hook to the hit "Phaan" for a little more fun.
The Richman Toy segued into rousing tracks such as "Lam Nam Sading", "Nang Sum" and "Perd Sakad" before introducing the last guest, Pod from Moderndog, who stimulated the crowd with his quickpaced hit "Ta Sawang" and the Richman Toy's "Sadud Rak".
As the concert drew to an end, the band returned to stage for an encore of "Od Od" and "Monrak Ya Saneh".
