Bank of Thailand Governor Tarisa Watanagase has extended her suppports to whoever the Cabinet approves today as the new central bank chief.
On the sidelines of the Euro Money conference in Bangkok today, she said that her supports also go to Prasarn Trairatvorakul, president of Kasikornbank, who is tipped to win the nomination.
"He is a suitable choice given his experience in the banking industry," she said, however adding that Prasarn has to be careful in addressing conflicts of interest.
She reiterated the necessity of policy rate hike this year as part of rate normalisation, as the policy rate is now at the historic low level.
The Cabinet will today consider Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij's nomination of the new BOT chief.
