The second edition of the Phuket Music Festival is even more successful than the first
The old name, Roy Fest, meant delicious, and though it was changed for the second edition to the plain, no-nonsense Phuket Music Festival, last weekend's celebration of sound was just as appetising to the ten of thousands of fans, who danced and drank the nights away on Karon Beach.
The two-night fest got under way last Friday with Ta-Mone, which quickly had the audience singing along to their well-known reggae numbers before giving over the stage to the official opening ceremony.
Later that night, Maha Chamrern had festival-goers jumping up and down.
Then it was time for some serious scratching by British DJ Activa and a tight set by trance-masters DJ Agnelli and Nelson.
The new outfit 4GZM open Saturday night's show, followed by Blackhead vs Zeal and Buddha Bless who jammed with DJ Spidamonkee.
Asked why Blackhead was on stage as opposed to Silly Fools as indicated in the posters, an festival official told me that the line-up had been changed just one week earlier. "It was a double act and Silly Fools and Zeal had never played together," he explained.
The audience didn't seem to mind though, dancing as if there were no tomorrow as Japanese DJ Yoji came out his attractive turntable style followed by Singaporean DJ B.
