The race to be crowned the next governor of the Bank of Thailand is approaching the final stretch, with the finish line expected at the next Cabinet meeting.
A government source said yesterday that Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij would submit the name of the new governor for approval at the Cabinet meeting on July 6.
"The finance minister also sent five questions to candidates to show their vision on how to manage such variables as interest rates and currencies," the source said.
Korn had earlier given his point of view that even though the search committee had proposed more than one candidate, he would submit only one name to the Cabinet for consideration.
The four candidates are former deputy finance minister Pisit Leeahtam, BOT Deputy Governor Bandid Nijathaworn, Securities and Exchange Commission secretary-general Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala and Kasikornbank president Prasarn Trairatvorakul.
