TERRORISM CHARGE

Wives of 2 red leaders deny financial linkage

Thida Tojirakarn and Srivilai Musigapong on Thursday denied the news reports that their husbands, Weng Tojirakarn and Veera Musigapong, had any suspicious financial transactions linked to terrorism.

The reports cited the report of the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation naming 86 individuals, including weng and Veera, with unusual banking records during the red-shirt rally.

Thida said the sudden rise of about Bt1.4 million in Weng's bank account was attributed to the payment for a land deal made about 10 years ago.

The payments to weng were made over several years, she said, claiming to have past records for Bt3 million and Bt2 million payments as proof of the deal.

"It was a coincidence that the latest payment was made during the rally," she said.

Sirvilai said Veera voiced a big surprise of having Bt10 million deposited his bank account and that he had asked her to check his records to verify about such a deposit.

"My husband jokingly told me that I am entitled to spend the money if I can find the said account," she said.

The two wives were speaking after visiting their husbands at the remand facilities.
