Samui complaint

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit yesterday confronted residents in Koh Samui during a trip to file a complaint with police against Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban for allegedly encroaching on a forest on Phu Paeng mountain.

Prompong and some Pheu Thai MPs submitted a com-plaint at Koh Samui police sta-tion in Surat Thani province, although 200 villagers gathered to block and abuse them.

Prompong said he believed the villagers were set up and recruit-ed from somewhere else.

However, many villagers among the group told reporters they lived on the island.

Chamlong Popetch, head of the Koh Samui Land Office, said the plot of land Prompong was talking about belonged to Suthep's son Tan. However, it was not on on Phu Paeng mountain and he had not found any wrongdoing.
