The Interior Ministry has appointed new provincial governors to succeed those transferred after the red-shirt riots, while promoting and transferring deputy governors in certain provinces.
Most positions have been taken by those with ties to Sak-siam Chidchob, the chairman of a ministry working committee and Newin Chidchob, a Bhum Jai Thai Party executive known as the kingmaker.
The transfers were ordered reportedly to benefit the BJT, possibly in the general election next year. Two of the officials are required to report for new posts next Monday, and three others on the following Monday (June 21), with no reasons given for the different dates.
Among the transferees are former deputy governor Charnwit Wasayangkuoon of Nakhon Ratchasima to be deputy governor of Si Sa Ket, deputy governor Witthaya Kamon of Samut Prakan to be deputy governor of Nakhon Ratchasima.
Former governor Karan Supphakijlekhakarn has resigned to take up a post as director of an institute promoting royally-initiated projects.
Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Police have begun reshuffling junior commissioned officers and non-coms after a long delay due to their employment during the red-shirt protests.
The reshuffle at police headquarters - both under and not under direct RTP supervision - is due to be completed by July 7 and effective by July 16. Reshuffle of senior officers, requiring the police chief's scrutiny and approval, will be completed by June 25.
For those holding current positions for no more than two years and who need to be transferred away in violation of regular procedure and for other reasons, names must be submitted by June 25 and approval will be granted on a case-by-base basis.
