Pumin says he'll resign

Pumin Leethiraprasert, a deputy government spokesman from the coalition Puea Pandin Party, said yesterday he would resign later this week to show "political manners" following a dispute within the coalition caused by dissident votes.

His decision came after some MPs from his faction voted against two Cabinet members from the coalition Bhum Jai Thai Party targeted in last week's censure debate, Transport Minister Sophon Saram and Interior Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul.

Pumin criticised Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and the Democrat Party for focusing too much on the government's stability. He said that instead of taking action against Sophon and Chaovarat, who got the least votes of confidence following the censure debate, the PM persuaded some Puea Pandin MPs to join his new Cabinet while ousting the faction that voted against the two ministers.
