Index Creative Village is opti?mistic the eventorganising sector will recover during the second half of the year, as many clients have indicated their marketing plans will be revised.
Index coCEO Kreingkrai Kanjanapokin yesterday said event organisers had lost between Bt400 million and Bt500 million as a result of the recent political unrest, with Index alone losing revenue of Bt100 million during the two months of the crisis.
The company expects the Bt100 million might however be recovered in the second half of the year, as clients have started talking with organisers about conducting marketing activities when the political situa¬tion becomes more sta?ble.
"About 10 clients have talked to us about marketingplan revisions, for which we expect to secure the jobs. Moreover, government agencies are expected to spend [more] before the fiscal year expires at the end of September," he said.
Kriengkrai said salespromotion events are expected to boom, because producers want to boost consumer confidence as well as restore rev?enue.
Overall advertising spending is not too bad thanks to the upcoming 2010 World Cup tournament, he said.
"The World Cup is an incentive for event organisers, with 10 product brands continuing to spend to welcome the major tournament. Even if the political situation has frozen [certain] ad spending, organisers are lucky to have the World Cup to survive," he added.
Bt300 million has been spent on advertising with Index Creative Village before the World Cup kicks off, he said, adding that event organising for corporate social responsibility is also expected to build because private firms want to show their participation in the country's recovery.
The company is maintaining its 2010 revenue target at Bt1.8 billion.
Kematat Paladesh, vice president (marketing) of MCOT, said the World Cup would strengthen ad spending on TV media to meet its doubledigit growth forecast.
MCOT expects ad spending during the month of the tournament will reach Bt1 billion.
"Broadcasting of the World Cup is during prime time, which benefits TV operators. Ad spending on TV this year should grow by double digits despite the recent political trouble," he said.
In addition, MCOT will broadcast its own major event called "Technology Street 2010", the highlight of which is innovative robots from Japan and the Robot Mechanism Exhibition.
Robots on show at the event come from Index Kokoro, which is the latest business of Index Creative Village.
Technology Street 2010 is being held this coming Saturday and Sunday at Impact Muang Thong Thani.
MCOT has invested Bt20 million in putting on the event, which is being sponsored by private firms. MCOT will profit from the organisation of the event.
