Arrest warrants were issued yesterday for four men for setting fire to the CentralWorld building, whose images were captured on the shopping mall's security camera.
One of the suspects, around 35 years of age, is seen breaking the glass doors of many shops in Zone E of the mall before setting fire to them. Another man, aged around 40 and 175-centimetres tall, is seen carrying valuables looted from shops inside CentralWorld.
The third man, aged 25 to 30 and around 170cm tall, is seen walking around the mall with a stick in his hand. The fourth man seen is chubby, around 25-30 years old and about 170cm tall.
The footage captures the four men committing various crimes alone and as a group. The recording, dated May 19, runs from 2.30pm onward. The arrest warrants were approved yesterday by the Southern Bangkok Criminal Court as recommended by Pathum Wan police.
Pathum Wan police conducted another search at Pathum Wanaram temple and found many valuables hidden in the compound, several under Buddha images. Among the items found were 40 luxury wristwatches, leather bags, shoes and crystal ware. Police are seeking owners of the items with proof of purchase.
Meanwhile, an arrest warrant was also issued for Jaran Loiphool, 39, a close aide to late Maj-General Khattiya Sawasdiphol, who served as second in command for security operations during the red-shirt protests. The suspect is in custody and being treated for injuries he sustained in a gunfight with soldiers.
Jaran, nicknamed the "Giant" due to his 190cm height and large build, was charged with various crimes under the security law, and assault under the Criminal Code for attacking policemen on 10 occasions.
Police are also gathering evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for Sornchai Sridee, another red-shirt guard who is at large. He is seen wearing an Army uniform and carrying an assault rifle. He is suspected of being responsible for many injuries and deaths.
