Thousands of red shirts from the Rajprasong rally site have been sent back home by free bus services, Transport Company president Wuthichart Kalayanamitr said on Friday.
Most of the red shirts returned to Khon Kaen, Mahasarakham, Kalasin, Udon Thani, Roi Et, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phrae, Phayao and Nan.
The state-controlled company provided air-conditioned buses, each of which had two drivers to ensure safety. The buses made rest-stop for free meals enroute to the destination.
Before departing Bangkok, each protester received Bt200 paid by the Social Development and Human Security Ministry. The allowances were to cover personal expenses and the cost of travelling from the provincial town to the village.
About 500 protesters from Udon Thani, including 10 monks, were seen cheerful when arriving at the provincial town at 3.00 am before dispersing to their respective villages.
