8.15pm - Assailants lobbed several M-79 grenades onto Lumpini police station, damaging trees and glass windows of the station. There is no injuries.

Earlier an M79 grenade was fired at a Lumpini police flat in Lumpini area, injuring three women and a police at about 5pm. The grenade laded on the fourth floor of the flat building.

8pm : Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says in a TV-pool programme, explaining the government's campaign to re-claim the capital from red shirts protesters.

He says the reds have held hostage the country and the government , therefore, the government has no choice but to use this way to end the protest.

He insists that the government had tried every means to handle the chaos in the country which is caused by "the terrorists".

"The only way to end the loss of lives is that the protest ends immediately. The protest has been organised for the benefits of just small groups of people," the premier said.

6.33am - CRES indicates some deaths and injuries were not caused by govt troops' shooting. The troops involved in the re-claiming of the capital are not equipped by M-79 grenades, indicating that the M-79 bomb attacks are done by red shirts.

6.32am - Lots of red shirts protesters gather at Klong Toey intersection. They were seen removing close circuit cameras.

6.30am - CRES repeated that the troops' movements are not a "crackdown" but an operation to blockade Rajprasong and to wear down the protests.

6am - Court sentences 27 people involving in red shirts protests to one year in prison, DSI chief Tharit Pengdit says.

The penalty is commuted to six months without probation as they cooperated.

5pm - A military sniper guns down an armed red-shirt protester who was on top of a building opposite from the bunker of the troops in front of the Bon Kai community on Rama IV Road.

The military sniper spotted the protester carrying a gun on the opposite building so he fired at the man, sending him down immediately.

4.30pm - More than ten trucks of fully-armed troops left Kiakkai area heading to Si Ayutthaya Intersection.

They are believed to be dispatched to reinforce troops at the Din Daeng Intersection and Rajprasong Road.

4.20pm - Nation photographer Chaiwat Pumpung is among five people injured as troops clash with red shirts protesters in Rajprarob area.

Chaiwat, a senior photographer, was shot on his leg. He and four others injured were rushed to a hospital nearby.

3.20pm - More troops are deployed on Rajaprarob as people are asked to leave the area immediately as the troops launch their attempt to re-claim the area.

"People who have no business here should leave now. We do not guarantee your safety because terrorists have infiltrated with innocent people. We have to protect ourselves."

Snipers are deployed on pedestrian bridges to provide protection for soldiers.

3.16pm - Democrat Party's executive Sathit Pitutecha calls for authorities to find assailant who shot Maj Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol as soon as possible.

He says if the assailant could not be found, life of PM Abhisit Vejjajiva is also in danger.

3pm - Pantip, a popular webboard, has closed its political page; Rajadamnoen, saying it does not want to be an element that causes more division in the country under the current political violence.

It says it once believed that a public forum like Rajadamnoen would help heal the division, but now the situation turns worse.

The suspension of Rajdamnoen will continue until the situation is better.

2:40 pm: Troops fired at a pedestrian flyover in front of the Bon Kai community near the Rama IV expressway.

Troops fired at the flyover to warn the red-shirt protesters from going up the bridge for fear that they would use the bridge as a position to fire at troop.

Protesters continued to burn tyres in the area.

Sounds of gunfire, firecrackers and explosions were heard continually as a helicopter flew over Bon Kai and Saladaeng Intersection.

1pm - Natthawut Saikua, a red-shirt leader, demands that the government must immediately order troops to stop firing at people and pull out troops.

Natthawut said clashes happened because the government deployed troops to block red-shirt people from joining the protest at Rajprasong.

He said the blockade infuriated the protesters so the red-shirt leaders could not control them.

The clashes caused at least 17 people to be killed, Natthawut said.

11:40 am: 2 explosions and sounds of gunfire were heard in front of Ua-Chuliang Building near Saladaeng Intersection.

11am - Center for Resolution of Emergency Resolution (CRES)'s spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the army would so far not reinforce their troops. 

10.50am - PM's Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtoey reiterates that the government and the army have no choice but to crackdown on red shirts protesters as they are armed and well-trained.

He called for the protesters at Rajprasong rally site to abandon the protest. He blamed ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra for being behind the protests which were organised purely for his own benefits.

10.30am - Three or four residents of Bon Kai community near Lumpini Boxing Stadium are shot and injured by unidentified snipers Saturday morning, TNN television reported.

The station said the snipers might be hiding on a deserted building on the side of the boxing stadium.

The residents were shot at their chest and were rushed to a hospital.

9.20am - Another gunfight erupts on Rajprarop Road, causing a Coke transport worker to be injured in a crossfire. The gunfire lasted about 10 minutes.

Matichon Online says some injured people remain at the bunker of the troops.

9am - No reporters are seen at Rajprasong rally site. red shirts leader; weng Tohjirakan, asks the media to return to cover the protest at Rajprasong rally site. He guarantees maximum protection for the media.

8.55am - BTS and MRT services suspend all services of all routes until midnight for the second day

8.20am - red shirts protesters burnt a garbage truck near Bon Kai area.

8.06am - Erawan Emergency Center reports 16 deaths and 141 others injured. Seven of them are in ICU in 11 hospitals.

7.50am - Troops reinforce at Rajprarob Intersection by erecting more barricades and prohibit people from entering the area.

7.40am - At Rajprasong rally site, protesters wake up. Reds leaders take turn to give speech on stage.

7.30am - At Saladaeng, tensions rise after clashes between troops and protesters on Friday night. Troops could be seen everywhere.

7.25am - red shirts protesters burn two public telephone booths and a police booth near Thai-Belgium Bridge.

7.20am - Driver of a van who tries to break barricades is injured after troops fired at his van's tyres. He is reportedly on his way to deliver food and necessities at Rajprasong rally site.

6.30am - UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon expresses concerns on the violence in Thailand. He asks all parties concerned to talk.

6am - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Emergency Health Centre revived the death toll of Friday's clashes between troops and protesters to 16.

157 people were reported to be injured so far.
