BMA cancels garbage collection in rally sites

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) cancelled garbage collection at redshirt rally sites after the protesters seized four garbage trucks yesterday morning.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Pornthep Techapaiboon said they would try to collect trash if the redshirt leaders could guarantee the safety of garbage collectors and ensure that no more trucks are seized.

The redshirt protesters had seized the garbage trucks to block the Pathumwan intersection yesterday morning and then released them at 8am after an hour of negotiation.

The city authorities later instructed all garbage trucks that usually pass through the rally sites on their way to Onnuj garbage plant to instead head for the plants in Nong Khaem or Sai Mai, Pornthep said.
