Domestic car sale continued the seven-month growth, hitting 63,067 units in March or up by 52.6 per cent on year, according to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand.

Toyota Vice president Wuttikorn Suriyachantananont attributed the expansion to domestic economic recovery, new models, and stable interest rate that encouraged purchases.

By category, passenger cars accounted for 23,122 units, up 42.8 per cent on year while commercial vehicles reached 39,945 units, up 58.9 per cent.

In the commercial vehicle segment which showed the highest sale volume in 89 months, Thailand's product champion, one-tonne pickup sale reached 34,938 units, up 61.7 per cent.

In the first quarter, the combined sale volume rose 54.8 per cent to 166,802 units.

Wuttikorn expects the market to continue showing growth in April. Auto companies in the recent motor show alone received orders for 27,878 cars.
