Software associations urge reform of Sipa presidency requirements

Seven software associations recently sent a joint letter to the Software Industry Promotion Agency board proposing it review its minimum requirements for selecting a new president.

The seven associations are the Association of Thai Information and Communication Technology Industry, the Association of Thai Software Industry, the Thai Software Export Promotion Association, the Thai Animation and Computer Graphics Association, the Thai Embedded Systems Association, the eLearning Association of Thailand and the Thailand Game Software Association.

The letter said the minimum requirements should be broadened to allow for a wider candidate field. For example, candidates are now required to hold at least a master's degree in the field of software or ICT.

However, this provision denies a chance to others who have not obtained graduate degrees but do have ample management experience in the software and digitalcontent industry.

The letter also suggested that since the private sector played such an important role in the development of the local software industry, Sipa should allow the sector to participate in selecting a new president, including by communicating each candidate's vision to them.
