The average scores for the ONet (Ordinary National Educational Test) for Prathom 6, Mathayom 3 and Mathayom 6 levels were below 50 per cent, Deputy Education Minister Chaiwuti Bannawat said yesterday.
According to him, for the 898,000 Prathom 6 students who sat for the eightsubject ONet exams in February, the lowest score was 31.75 for English language and the highest was 64.75 for the health and physical education subject.
The 794,000 Mathayom 3 students taking the ONet obtained the lowest average score of 22.54 in English language and the highest score of 56.70 in health and physical education. Most students obtained 20 to 50 points in Thai language, social science, arts and career and technology subjects; 10 to 30 points in English language and mathematics; and 50 to 70 points in science as well as health and physical education, he said.
For the 350,000 Mathayom 6 ONet testtakers, the lowest average score was 23.98 for English language and the highest was 46.47 for Thai language. Only one student obtained a perfect 100percent score in the English language, while two got the top grade in maths, he said.
Chaiwuti added that these low results should encourage all parties to improve the quality of education, especially in English language, science and maths.
For the 189,340 students that took the General Aptitude Test (GAT) exams last month, the lowest score achieved was 0, the highest 292 and the average was 130.82 points, he said. The Professional Aptitude Test (PAT) results showed the lowest scores at between 054 points and the highest scores between 210297. Most students got 30 to 60 points in PAT1; 120 to 180 in PAT5 and 6, 60 to 20 points in PAT2, 3, 4 and PAT7.17.6, he said.
Chaiwuti said the results showed that changes made to the health and physical education, arts, social science and career and technology examinations better evaluated the students' analytical thinking and academic ability.
