Six poachers were killed yesterday in an insurgent ambush in Narathiwat province, before 10 policemen travelling to inspect the murder scene were wounded in a roadside bomb.
The bodies of the six victims, three of whom were brothers, were found in and around a pickup truck they were using to transport a wild hog from a jungle in Ba Chor district. The vehicle had a large number of bullet holes as well.
The ambush was reported to Ba Chor police at around 4pm and 10 officers were dispatched to the scene. The team, travelling in a pickup truck and three motorcycles, were then hit by a roadside bomb - made from a cooking gas cylinder - when they were about a kilometre from the murder scene. Later, a 50strong team pursued the insurgents, who are expected to have fled to Raman district in neighbouring Yala province.
