The HP ProBook 6440b is a powerful notebook computer for business travellers, running on new and powerful Intel Core i processors.
The series has several configurations but the one tested here ran on an Intel Core i5-520M Processor (2.4GHz, 3MB L3 cache). It came with 250 gigabytes of hard-disk space and 2GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM, or working memory.
Since it was designed for business use, it was not equipped with a dedicated graphics processor for gamers. Instead, its graphics horsepower came from an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD.
It had a 14-inch diagonal LED-backlit HD anti-glare display with 1366 x 768 resolution, which made reading text easy on the eyes.
Its spill-resistant keyboard with numeric keypad was large and easy to use and its touchpad with scroll zone and two pick buttons worked effectively for navigation through the applications.
Best of all, the notebook could be expanded with a new advanced gadget thanks to an Express Card/54 and it had one media card reader for easily importing pictures from digital-camera memory cards.
The ProBook 6440b also supported fast network connectivity thanks to an integrated Marvell Gigabit Ethernet PCI Controller (10/100/1000 NIC) and an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 (2x2) 802.11a/b/g/n.
The test unit ran on a 32-bit Windows 7 operating system.
During the test, the unit ran with stability and the Windows 7 system started up very quickly. Microsoft Office 2007 applications, like Word 2007, ran with high speed and stability.
Benchmarked by the Windows 7 internal benchmark tool, the ProBook 6440b got quite impressive scores for a business notebook computer.
On a scale of 1 to 7.9, the ProBook 6440b got 6.5 points for the processor's calculations per second.
It got 5.5 points for memory operations per second and 5.9 points for its hard-disk data-transfer rate.
It scored 5 for graphics desktop performance for Windows Aero or transitional effects of the operating system and got a quite impressive 6.1 points for 3D business and gaming-graphics performance.
Prices for HP ProBook 6440b models start at Bt25,900 (VAT not included), and depend on the configuration of CPU, hard-drive space and memory.
