The government will likely enforce the internal security law during the Mekong River Commission Summit in Hua Hin from April 2 to 5, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thuagsuban said on Friday.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Suthep made an inspection trip to assess the security situation as part of the preparations to host the summit meeting.
"Following the inspection, I will designate areas deemed necessary to be placed under security measures," Abhisit said.
The red-shirt protests remain a serious concern but the situation is under control as evidenced by the hosting of the Inter Parliamentary Union Summit in Bangkok as planned, he said, adding delegates from more than 120 countries are proof of the country remaining a safe destination.
Suthep and Abhisit both said depending on the circumstances, the security enforcement might or might not duplicate those measures applied during the Asean Summit.
