Teenyboppers get ready to scream! Seventeen South Korean artists hit Rajamangkala National Stadium on April 6
Adamas Incorporation, which organises all the concerts in Thailand from elsewhere in Asia, is making "not for sale" super concert, "Show King M Bangkok", after taking a hiatus last year due to high costs and major competition from local stars.
"Last year, we simply couldn't compete by bringing in Korean artists because there were so many more Thai concert promoters," says deputy president Kittiwat Manosuthi, who was behind such big shows as SM Town Live '08, TVXQ's "O Live in Bangkok 2007" and "Rain's Coming World Tour 2007". "The cost is enormous, not least because of the Korean artists' higher remuneration."
The "not for sale" super concert, which takes place at Rajamangkala National Stadium on April 6 from 7pm, features 17 Korean artists: 2AM, 2PM, 8 Eight, Brown Eyed Girls, Cho Shin Sung (Supernova), CN Blue, Kara, Kim Tae Woo, MBLAQ, One-2, Seeya, SG Wannabe, Son Ho Young, T-ARA, The Boss, U-Kiss, and ZE:A.
"We may get 20 artists as more and more sponsors are approaching me," he says. "It's really hard to see these Korean artists outside their country. And the budget is less than Bt100 million. We expect to have an audience of 50,000 people.
"The stadium will be separated into several zones like SM Town with a catwalk and standing area. We'll have projectors for those who are right at the top of the stadium."
Scoring a first for Southeast Asia, Adamas is collaborating with South Korean entertainment giant Mnet Media in organising the "not for sale" super concert.
"It is a new model. Our two companies are experimenting with the concept," says Kittiwat. "It's not really free in the sense that to get tickets, fans need to take part in several activities that involve purchasing products and applying for membership from our sponsors and partners."
To get a ringside ticket worth Bt4,500, you'll have to apply for membership of His & Her Plus Point and pay Bt4,500 for Wacoal products.
