A former government official has been sentenced to two years in jail over corruption charges.
Weerapat Pongpraphansiri was charged for transferring nearly Bt1 million of government funds into his own bank account in January 2007 while he was working at the Comptroller General's Department. The money was intended for two beneficiaries of pension funds.
The 35-year-old pleaded guilty in court and has already returned the funds to the damaged parties. Owing to his confession, the court commuted his jail term from four to two years.
