The Stock Exchange of Thailand's board yesterday selected Charamporn Jotikasthira, senior executive vice president of Siam Commercial Bank, to take the helm of the Kingdom's bourse.
After receiving applications from late last year through to January 15, the SET narrowed the field down to a shortlist of three: Vichet Tantivanich, senior executive vice president of the SET, Montri Sornpaisarn, chief executive officer of Kim Eng Securities, and Charamporn.
Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij said the SET board informed him yesterday that Charamporn had been selected. The selection committee will now press ahead with the appointing process.
A source close to the committee said Charamporn was now negotiating the details of his benefits.
"If the negotiations are smooth, Charamporn will become the top manager of the SET," said the source.
However, if the negotiations break down, second-placed Montri will immediately replace him.
Somjate Moosirilert, chairman of the selection committee, said an appointment would be made by June 1.
Incumbent president Patareeya Benjapholchai ends her term on May 31.
