The condition of the two-week-old elephant calf, that nearly drowned in a waterfall pool at Namtok Ngao National Park on Sunday, has improved as donations to provide it with powdered milk has reached Bt200,000, veterinarian Pattarapon Maneeon said yesterday.
Though Plai Huai Yai can walk, it still sustained some wounds that are being treated with antibiotics. The calf has also been moved to the more spacious National Park Protection Unit 2. Today officials will try to track down the herd Plai Huay Yai belonged to so the calf can be reunited with its mother.
Chumphon Governor Karan Supakijwilekkarn said donations made to the Phai Huai Yai bank account, number 401-782-4669, at the Carrefour Chumphon branch of Siam Commercial Bank had reached Bt227,963 as of Tuesday.
