Nation Broadcasting Corp has spent Bt37 million on equipment to upgrade its broadcasts from analogue to digital with a view to producing documentaries for the international market.
"Audiences overseas prefer watching quality content. The hi-definition camcorder and digital system is suitable for documentary production. NBC is ready to produce documentaries to air via its channel and seek revenue from providing contents to other TV stations," Adisak Limprungpatanakij, NBC president and CEO, told at press briefing yesterday.
The company has purchased 76 high-definition digital video cameras and accessories from Panasonic worth Bt19 million.
It has also allocated Bt18 million to install a file-based workflow system for digital broadcasting from Strong Brothers 1961 Co.
The new technology would help NBC to offer quality content in order to compete with regional TV stations such as Chinese TV - CCTV.
NBC has started testing the digital system via its entertainment channel called Mango TV, which expects to start airing commercially in May.
Besides TV, HD files could be converted to new media, which is another channel to generate revenue.
NBC will break even this year because the company can now compete with other channels in the region, he added.
