It's time to Reearth

Scandinavian rap and house rave in Samui to help the environment

Presenting some of Scandinavia's hottest live acts and DJs, the Reearth Charity Festival Koh Samui, a two-day massive beach and jungle party, aims to promote sustainable tourism and ecological responsibility with a great line-up of international artists.

The festival tomorrow and Thursday on Chaweng Noi Beach is a fund-raiser for groups that are trying to prevent tourism from damaging the local environment.

Organisers Far Out, Samui Friends Group, Mangroves for the Future, Swedish Environmental Secretariat for Asia and the United Nations Environment Programme are concerned that drinking water is insufficient during tourist season and that increased development is causing erosion that triggers floods and damages coral reefs.

Both days at Reearth will have daytime activities on the beach to the music of DJs, live acts in the evening, and more DJ music until dawn.

Rap singer Timbuktu will be there. He's one of the founders of Reearth and a five-time Grammy winner who's had several hit singles. He's been performing throughout Scandinavia with acclaimed Swedish funk orchestra Damn, who will accompany him at the Samui gig.

Sahara Hotnights went platinum with the album "What If Leaving is a Loving Thing" and struck gold with the single "Cheek to Cheek", the most-played song on Swedish radio last year.

Magnus Tingsek is a Swedish soul-pop phenomenon currently touring in support of his fourth album, "Restless Soul".

Looptroop Rockers are Sweden's gift to hip-hop and certified kings of the underground.

Some of Sweden's most interesting DJs will keep the fires burning at Reearth, among them Johanna Olfsson, Husarrest and the dance-music specialists Savage Skulls.
