Chuan to recuperate in Trang

Chuan Leekpai, chief adviser to the ruling Democrat Party, will spend all of next week in his home province of Trang recuperating from a recent illness.

He was discharged yesterday after spending more than three weeks in Ramathibodi Hospital.

The former prime minister was suffering from a fungal infection in his bile duct.

"I've lost 4 or 5 kilograms," Chuan said yesterday.

He said he was able to follow political developments from his hospital bed.

"I believe the government can handle the present situation," Chuan said.

Redshirt supporters of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra are set to hold a big rally next Friday, when the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders rules on whether to strip him permanently of Bt76 billion in assets that have been frozen.
