Surayud's Khao Yai Thiang home razed

The vacation home of Privy Councillor Surayud Chulanont at Khao Yai Thiang in Nakhon Ratchasima has been demol¬ished and the plot has been vacated and restored to its original undeveloped state, forest official Suthep Pawaretwithayalan said yesterday.

"A team of forest officials, including myself, checked and found the plot vacated and devoid of any property or physical structures," he said.

Suthep said he already submitted his report on the plot to the Forest Department, confirming Surayud's compliance with the order to vacate the plot.

The red shirts brought to light the impropriety of Surayud's vacation home, located inside the forest reserve.

The government has the legal right to grant settlement rights to original settlers before forest zoning, but the forestland titles are not transferable to nonfamily members.
