The defence team of Khunying Pojaman na Pombhejara on Tuesday submitted a 25-page closing statement on the Bt76 billion in impounded assets involving her ex-husband Thaksin Shinawatra.
The defence outlined 16 key rebuttals on the prosecution claim that the wealth was ill-gotten gains amassed when Thaksin was the prime minister between 2001 and 2006.
The defence arguments on Pojaman's behalf included
1. Pojaman already had the networth of about Bt1 billion in marital property before Thaksin became the prime minister.
2. Pojaman did not benefit from Thaksin's office but the increase of her family fortune happened in accordance with the growth of capitalisation in the stock market.
The defence also highlighted its key rebuttals against five prosecution arguments raised during the high court's inquirty.
The case involves 22 defendants linked to Thaksin's assets. Each defendant is entitled to file a separate closing statement. The verdict is scheduled for February 26.
