Isuzu climbed 6.2 per cent, the most since January 8, to close at ¥205. Eiji Mitsuhashi, a spokesman for the firm, said the Nikkei report was based on speculation and declined to say whether the company had indeed booked a profit. Isuzu Motors, Japan's largest maker of lightduty lorries, rose the most in nearly a month in Tokyo trading after The Nikkei newspaper said the company had posted an operating profit in last year's third quarter.
Isuzu is scheduled to announce its earnings results on Friday.
The company may post a fourthquarter operating profit of more than ¥10 billion (Bt3.65 billion), the first in five quarters, The Nikkei said. Isuzu is benefiting from rising sales in Asia, according to the report.
"Emergingmarket economies and demand for lorries are picking up," said Mitsuo Shimizu, an analyst at Cosmo Securities in Tokyo. - Bloomberg
