His Majesty to grant audience tomorrow

Much to the delight of his subjects, His Majesty the King will be granting audience at the Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall tomorrow.

This would be His Majesty's first public appearance outside the Siriraj Hospital in months. Since he was admitted in hospital on September 19, the monarch was only seen in public twice - once on Chulalongkorn Day and once on the evening of Loy Krathong.

According to the Royal Household Bureau, books for the public to record their best wishes for His Majesty will not be available at the Siriraj Hospital tomorrow. Instead, the public is encouraged to head for the Grand Palace.

Birthday greetings for His Majesty seem to be flooding in.

One message came from Britain's Queen Elizabeth, which read: "It gives me great pleasure to offer my warmest congratulations to Your Majesty as you celebrate your 82nd birthday. I hope that Your Majesty has now recovered from your recent illness and will be able to fully enjoy the celebrations. I wish Your Majesty good health, longevity and happiness and send you my very best wishes for the continued happiness and prosperity of all."

In Thailand, celebrations marking His Majesty's birthday began yesterday with thousands of people braving Bangkok traffic to take part in events last night.
