Quiros Gets Monty's Royal Seal of Approval

[GOLF] Alvaro Quiros, Europe's most powerful and longest hitting golfer, is heading to the Royal Trophy. The Spaniard has been named by European Captain Colin Montgomerie for the European challenge against Asia in the fourth edition of the continental series of Matches to take place on 810 January 2010 in Chonburi, Thailand.

The nomination of the six feet three inches tall Quiros follows Captain Montgomerie's previous identification of the threetime European Tour title winner as one of the exciting band of European rookies who could help him recapture the Ryder Cup from the Americans next October at the Celtic Manor in Wales. Another one of them, German Martin Kaymer, has already been named for the European Team for the Royal Trophy in what continues to evolve into an imposing European lineup  which also features super Swedes Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson and Monty himself.

Current European Ryder Cup Captain Montgomerie said: "The Royal Trophy provides an excellent opportunity for me to spend time with some key players who are likely to be with me at Celtic Manor in October for the Ryder Cup."

But Quiros is more than just a fearsome 'power merchant'. He showed a solid temperament when he won his first big title, the prestigious Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews, followed up by claiming the Portuguese Masters title last year and  the Qatar Masters this year where he prevailed over the strongest field ever assembled at a regular European Tour event, and he almost added to his haul when finishing runnerup in the European Open a few months later.

The swashbuckling Quiros said: "It is a tremendous honour to be part of such a powerful European Team  and to be playing in a competition so closely associated with a true golfing legend as Seve Ballesteros."

"The European loss to Asia last time has not gone unnoticed and it is most definitely not an experience we want to repeat. I am fully committed to use my best efforts to play solid golf and compete very hard to regain the Royal Trophy for our Continent;" added the man who averages an astonishing 314.78 yards of the tees.

"I am very much looking forward to playing for our European Captain Colin Montgomerie;" concluded the winner of five career professional titles.
