A 51-year-old Bangkok man is the latest victim to die from the type-A H1N1 influenza. His death has brought the number of people killed by the virus in Thailand to 185.
Disease Control Department chief Somchai Nijapanich said yesterday the man was the sole person to die of the new flu over the past week. He said a total of 28,939 people were confirmed by lab tests as having caught the new flu in Thailand this year.
The Bureau of Epidemiology reported that the Central region, which includes Bangkok, had had an increas?ing number of people with the seasonal flu over the past two years as well as the deadly 2009 flu.
Victims were also scattered across many provinces in the North, and more cases of the new flu had been detected there than other regions. It was also suspected that the outbreak affecting schools in the Northeast (Isaan) had yet to stabilise.
