Five new extreme-performance machines to hit Thai market
Dell Corporation is to make its first entry into the gaming industry in Thailand and will introduce a new series of machines for game lovers after unveiling five new high-performance gaming rigs from Alienware at the Tokyo Game Show 2009 last week.
Dell Corporation (Thailand)'s consumer marketing manager Krittawit Krittayaruangroi said the company planned to introduce Alienware machines under the name Alienware by Dell, to deliver high-performance desktop and laptop computers to a niche market focused on the game industry. Alienware is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dell.
"This is the first time that Dell will provide high-performance desktop and laptop computers to support this niche market. We believe that the game market has high potential in Thailand. Even during the economic situation, game lovers still spent money to purchase hardware and games to provide their entertainment," he said.
Krittawit said that as a first step, Dell would introduce an Alienware M15x laptop and Alienware desktop machines at Commart Thailand, in November. The company will make the machines available through Dell concept stores and 200 dealers around the country. It will also launch a promotional campaign supporting the new products via "new media", particularly social networks.
Dell Corporation's director of marketing Jorge Perez said the global game market was worth about US$8 billion (Bt269.36 billion). Of this, the Asian market is worth about $3 billion, the US market about $3 billion and the European market about $2 billion. The Asian game market and game industry has huge growth potential, particularly in Japan, Korea and China, he said.
"We believe the Alienware machines will meet the demands of online game users and gamers who want to play on high-performance, specifically-designed desktop or laptop computers," Perez said.
Dell Corporation's product marketing coordinator Eduardo Goyanes said the five new Alienware machines included four desktop systems: the Alienware Aurora, Aurora ALX, Area-51 and Area-51 ALX. The fifth was a 15-inch gaming laptop, the Alienware M15x.
The Aurora desktops are designed to deliver the power needed for hardcore gaming, 3D animation, pro-level HD audio and video editing. The Alienware Aurora is upgradable and the Aurora ALX is the most powerful MicroATX desktop that Alienware has ever created, featuring the latest Intel Core i7 processors. Options include an Extreme Extreme Edition overclocked to 3.6GHz.
The Alienware Area-51 and Area-51 ALX are designed for extreme gamers and tech enthusiasts who demand only the latest and most advanced equipment. The Area-51 line of desktops features Intel Core i7 processors factory-overclocked to an intense 3.86GHz for peak performance.
The M15x laptop offers Alienware performance in a compact package designed to appeal to mobile enthusiasts and hardcore gamers who are on the go. Featuring an Intel Core i7 processor, the M15x also offers a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M CPU and up to 8GB DDR3 133MHz memory to take on, and dominate, even the most intense game tittles. Prices start at Bt80,000.
Asia Soft reports that the Thai online game market is worth around Bt2 billion a year. There are more than 6 million gamers around the country.
The Tokyo Game Show is the largest computer entertainment show in the world, aiming to exhibit the widest possible variety of the latest games. This year's show featured 758 titles and 180 exhibitors. There were 88 exhibitors from Japan and the remaining 92 came from 17 other countries.
