พูดถึงปัญหาด้านการสื่อสารที่ก่อให้เกิดผลเสียกับบริษัทเป็นมูลค่าหลายๆ ล้านบาท ประเด็นคือ วิศวกรไทยไม่เข้าใจสำนวนที่วิศวกรอเมริกันใช้ มันก็เลยเหมือน ไปไหนมาสามวาสองศอก

ขอตัดตอนเฉพาะประโยคที่มีข้อความที่มีสำนวนจะกล่าวอ้างถึงเท่านั้นนะคะ ส่วนใครอยากอ่านทั้งหมดหาอ่านได้ใน The Nation ประจำวันที่ 20 ธ.ค. 47 หน้า 4B ของเซ็คชั่น Business ชื่อบทความว่า Loose words over long distances can be costly indeed

burning issue - a burning issue or question is the one that is very important or very urgent and also receives serious attention

The unrest in the south is the burning issue in Thailand's national security right now.
ถัดมาเป็น to shake a leg ความหมายคือ If you tell someone to shake a leg you are telling them to hurry up and do something instead of sitting about lazily. เห็นชัดๆ ว่า สำนวนนี้ลำลองมากๆ

It's getting late. You'd better shake a leg and finish your work.

slicker that snot ดูที่ slick ประโยคในบทความใช้เกี่ยวกับการเคลื่อนไหว จึงหมายความว่า doing with speed and smoothness and without any effort. ส่วน Snot is nasal discharge. น้ำมูก ฉะนั้น Slicker than snot means something is so loose that it moves very easily.
Those pulleys are already slicker than snot, they should be replaced as soon as possible.

และ helter-skelter - the word is used to describe something that is carelessly hurried, unorganised and confused. เป็น adv. หรือ adj. ก็ได้ ประโยค "the US drawings were "helter-skelter" คือ The drawings were roughly drawn in a hurry.
