Two recent incidents should cause Thais to think something is going on.
First, early this month, Thanathorn Juangroonruangkit, leader of the newly launched Future Forward Party, declared that he would bring Thaksin back to face a new trial. He said Thaksin should be given the “justice” he deserves.
Second, Thai-language newspapers reported that a former candidate and supporters of the recently dissolved Thai Raksa Chart (TRC) Party in Chachoengsao province had declared they would switch all their votes to the Future Forward candidate.
There is speculation that supporters of this party across the country will follow the Chachoengsao example.
To add to the confusion, the now-defunct TRC is rumoured to have been supported and funded by Thaksin himself.
Reportedly, even the party’s short Thai name (To Sor Cho) was designed so that it could also be read as “Thaksin Shinawatra”.
The question is: What exactly is going on here?
