Re: “Celebrating the man who conquered religious fear with scientific fact”, Have Your Say, yesterday.
Thank you, Bangkok Atheist, for reminding us that Tuesday was International Darwin Day. One important thing that Charles Darwin did was provide evidence that all of us evolved from common ancestry. He wrote, “There is no fundamental difference between man and the higher animals in their mental faculties.”
Well, if there is no fundamental difference in our mental faculties why are we treating our fellow animals as though they are mere “commodities” devoid of feelings? Why are we casually snuffing out their valued lives, simply to satisfy our taste buds? And why are we cruelly using them as experimental “tools”? If there is no fundamental difference in our mental faculties, shouldn’t we be showing our fellow animals the same consideration that we show our fellow humans?
